Combatting malnutrition in all its forms – undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, overweight, and obesity – is one of the greatest global challenges that countries face today and food systems and diets are major contributors to the nutritional status of populations. For these reasons the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) developed Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition, published in February 2021, with the objective of contributing to ensure healthy diets based on adequate, accessible and availabe food. The VGFSyN present a comprehensive, systemic, and science and evidence-based approach to achieving healthy diets through sustainable food systems. The VGFSyN are voluntary and non-binding, and are meant to provide guidance to governments and relevant stakeholders when designing context-specific food policies.
